i was fed up of a hipster friend claiming he listened to The Velvet Underground and Bowie (whom I adore) so I said ‘have you heard any of marnip’s stuff?’ to which he replied ‘Marnip? Fucking yes! They’re in my top five babe, surprised you haven’t mentioned them before, but it has to be said, they’re later stuff wasn’t as good as the earlier tracks.’
I then told him ‘marnip’ didn’t exist and I had just made them up.
